We wouldn't be at all surprised if you've completely forgotten about it, but Crysis 4 was announced in January 2022. Developer Crytek dropped a teaser for the project that barely showed anything, and we've heard nothing about the game since. It's assumed to be in heavy development at this stage.
It's interesting, then, that leaked footage from a different Crysis title appeared online last week. Said footage was reportedly from a very early build of a supposed battle royale-based project known as Crysis Next — which has never been officially revealed.
With that in mind, it's now being suggested that this so-called Crysis Next was cancelled so that Crytek could focus on the aforementioned Crysis 4. We don't know for sure how far along the battle royale spin-off was in terms of development, but there's no doubt that some fans will see this as a step in the right direction. Especially if Crysis 4 ends up being a return to form for the franchise.
Here's hoping that we get more information on Crysis 4 in the relatively near future. But until that happens, let us know if you're ready to suit up in the comments section below.

A GaaS title cancelled in favour of a single player game within the same series… what dystopian timeline have I found myself in now?!?! 🤯
@colonelkilgore That's assuming Crysis 4 isn't some kind of mental live service thing to begin with!
Excellent, the tides are turning, at least some in the industry can see the real picture. The question is - can my ps5 play Crysis4 ? or will i need a pro ??
Good, I'd much rather have an excellent single player Crysis 4 than another battle royale game
It's surprising that they're working on a new game, I'd have thought that with the PS5 proving a platform where the original can finally be played at (or near) full PC settings, they'd follow industry trends and just re-re-rerelease a remastered original Crysis!
They (seemingly) have their priorities straight.
Finally is the tide slowly turning back to single player games focus.
Just how much time and money has been wasted in this GaaS chasing monopoly.
I’m hoping it will go away now and we can start seeing some big quality AAA single player games again.
Makes sense to make Crysis 4. After all, they just tag a BR to it later if they want.
Cyrsis 2 was goated
@OldGamer999 I don’t mind games with a multiplayer component, I just don’t want that to be all the game is (like Concord). And definitely not GAAS. Especially Crysis; what made that game fun was the single player sandboxes…although it had fun multiplayer too.
Take notes Sony!
Orrrrrr we could get a single-player Hunt game! PLEASE!!!
When we have people posing rhetorical questions like "I just can't understand why gamers want to see live services fail and be glad when they do, it's not an either/or issue with single player games, both can coexist", I will refer them to this article. Publishers have clearly been chasing the GaaS dragon for ages, and putting SP stuff on the back burner even if it wasn't explicit. Glad to see a reversion to a sensible balance.
That's a shame, I like BRs and Crysis multiplayer was fun.
@MasterChiefWiggum
I don’t think there is anything wrong with a bit of multiplayer, as long as it is not at the cost of the single player development.
@AyanamiReign I enjoyed Crysis 2 multiplayer on PS3 quite a lot. Even with the shocking performance lol
I've enjoyed all 3 crisis games but I've hated every single multiplayer mode on them. Abysmal lag and just downright frustrating.edited as I forgot crisis warhead was my fave entry and was actually great online.
The question is: Can PS5 Pro run Crisis 4?
Cant wait to play crysis again. Loved every game in that franchise. Them focusing on crysis4 is a good thing
OMG Prioritising Single Player Games!!!!
Fantastic news. 👍
@OldGamer999 Exactly. Didn’t hurt Halo, Gears, or loads of others, right?
